Hormones are biochemicals in our bodies that regulate several biological processes including metabolism, growth and development, reproductive functions, libido, and even mood. They essentially serve as our bodies’ chemical messengers, travelling through the bloodstream to relay messages to organs and tissues. When hormones fall out of balance, we encounter multiple health issues such as fatigue, irritability, mood swings, poor digestion, and of course, weight gain. When a hormone imbalance is not treated properly, these symptoms can persist. The good news is that there are many ways to balance your hormones naturally and, in turn, help you lose that stubborn weight you’ve been trying to shed.
At NY Health and Wellness, we are ready to get you slimmed down quickly with our Balance 3-H program, which guarantees up to a 20 pound weight loss in your first month! Call today for an appointment: (914) 703-4811.
As promised, here are some more lifestyle changes you can do on your own:
1 & 2. Avoid “Bad” Fats, Consume “Good” Fats
Fats are essential to hormone health. It is important to distinguish between unhealthy trans fats (hydrogenated vegetable oil) and healthy saturated fats from animal and vegetable sources. The “good” fats are traditional fats that have been around for centuries, such as meat, dairy (like butter and cream) made from grass-fed cows, ghee, avocados, coconut milk, lard, beef tallow, and certain oils like coconut oil, palm oil and extra virgin olive oil. These healthy saturated fats provide the building blocks for a variety of hormones and hormone-like substances in the body. Remember, the best way to obtain these vital nutrients is through food. But if your diet is lacking high-quality saturated fats, then you can take supplements accordingly.
On the other hand, trans fats raise your LDL (bad cholesterol) levels while simultaneously lowering your HDL (good cholesterol) levels. It is no surprise that trans fats have been linked to heart disease, as they are known to cause major clogging of the arteries, type 2 diabetes and other serious health issues.
Let’s face it–toxins are everywhere. They are in the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. Even more hazardous toxins can be found in pesticides, plastics, household chemicals, clean products, beauty products and even some mattresses. All of these things can potentially contain hormone disrupting chemicals that mimic hormones in the body and can prevent the body from naturally producing real hormones. These chemicals can also disrupt your body’s ability to balance blood sugar and metabolize cholesterol. The bottom line: toxic chemicals–although often undetected and imperceptible–can cause unwanted weight gain. Avoiding all toxins can be a daunting task. Here are some quick tips to help:
- use a glass bottle instead of a plastic one for your water
- eat organic produce and meat whenever possible
- create your own natural beauty products;
- always avoid parabens, phthalates and Bisphenol-A (BPA) at all costs.
At NY Health & Wellness, we want to further help you discover which chemicals most negatively impact your body and help you map out the lifestyle changes needed to avoid such toxins and get you looking and feeling your best!
