Smooth-Skin-Care-Tips

The secret to achieving a youthful and radiant complexion is actually in your refrigerator! Eat your way to glowing, healthy skin with foods that are rich in nutrients and decrease free radical damage to the skin.  Try these five anti-wrinkle foods that can help promote healthy skin and defy the effects of aging.

Blueberries

Blueberries are rich in antioxidants, which can prevent long-term cell damage by neutralizing the effects of free radicals that compromise the skin’s collagen and elastic tissue.  Blueberries are also high in vitamin C, which helps to support collagen formation, making skin look firmer and plumper.

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens like kale and spinach are among the most concentrated sources of nutrition. They are excellent sources of fiber and are rich in minerals such as iron, calcium, potassium and magnesium, on top of vitamins like C, K and E.  Dark leafy greens also contain high levels of the antioxidant lutein which contains iron and transports oxygen to the skin, helping to prevent premature aging signs.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are loaded with vitamin C, which helps strengthen collagen and in turn, minimizes the signs of aging.  Tomatoes are also high in lycopene, which can help to neutralize the harmful effects of UV light and reduce redness in skin.  Lycopene also helps to improve the vascular system at large.

Cold Water Fish

Cold water fish such as wild salmon, sardines, trout and herring are excellent sources of protein that help maintain and restore skin on a cellular level.  They are rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids, which have strong anti-inflammatory properties and improve the skin’s elasticity, keeping it wrinkle free.  Omega-3s also help to fight dehydration and keep skin lubricated—this is especially beneficial since skin tends to become drier and more prone to flaking with age.

Avocado

Avocados are rich in healthy, monounsaturated fats, and are packed with vitamins A, B, E, and potassium.  The natural oils in avocados help to moisturize, soothe and nourish the skin.   Avocados are also high in an antioxidant called glutathione, which plays a key role in the body’s detoxification process and helps to keep skin clear, firm and toned.
